ABOUT US

The Seascape Experience

Seascape Kayak Tours Inc., a Canadian leader in adventure tourism, has been offering unique, small-group sea kayaking experiences since 1994. The company has built its reputation on exceptional quality, extensive experience, high safety standards, personalized, friendly service, and a strong commitment to the culture, history and natural environment of each of its areas of operation.

Fully guided expeditions – from day trips to week-long adventures – focus on education, wildlife observation and sound environmental practices. In addition to guiding tours from its base in the Bay of Fundy, one of the world’s richest marine ecosystems, the company offers kayak expeditions to two other special ocean environments, the dramatic coastline of Newfoundland and the warm tropical waters of Costa Rica.

Bruce Smith, Seascape Founder

Founder & Owner Bruce Smith

Seascape’s founder and the lead guide for most of the company’s adventures, Bruce Smith has 30 years of outdoor leadership experience and was awarded a 2010 Lifetime Achievement Award by the New Brunswick Department of Environment. With a strong background in physical education and outdoor recreation, he is a certified wilderness emergency medical technician and wilderness first aid instructor and holds degrees in sport science and secondary education. He is also fluent in French, English and Spanish.

Safety, Connection, and Nature in Every Experience

SAFETY

Seascape’s multilingual staff prioritizes safety and nature conservation. Our guides all have extensive sea kayaking experience, as well as training in Advanced Wilderness First Aid, rescue procedures, and CPR. They’re equipped with VHF marine radios, cell phones, and comprehensive first aid kits.

CONNECTION

Connecting with the environment is a vital aspect of Seascape’s ethos. We cultivate this through immersive experiences that highlight the beauty, fragility, and interconnectedness of coastal ecosystems. We also seek to honour the culture and heritage of the Indigenous peoples in whose ancestral waters we paddle.

NATURE

At Seascape, nature is paramount. Our guides, our tours, and everything we do, seek to reinforce a profound respect for the natural world. Every Seascape experience is designed to immerse guests in the beauty of coastal ecosystems; to engage all the senses and forge a genuine bond with the environment.

OUR GUIDES
Dan Nelson, Seascape Guide

Dan Nelson

Dan has had a long career in outdoor education and higher education. He’s worked for Outward Bound; been a climbing guide on Mt. Rainier; climbed, canoed, and kayaked extensively in North and Central America; biked across the United States; trekked in Africa and Asia; and served as Director of Outdoor Programs at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire. He especially enjoys introducing people to outdoor adventure, whether at home in Vermont and Deer Island, NB or places like the Bay of Exploits, Newfoundland.

Sebastian Teunissen, Seascape Guide

Sebastian Teunissen

Sebastian has spent much of his life on the water; sailing on the Great

Lakes and the Pacific Ocean, canoeing in northern Canada, scuba diving

in the South Pacific and, most recently, kayaking the waters of the

Fundy Isles. He has taught skiing in the Sierra Nevada, scuba diving in

Papua New Guinea and cycled around much of Japan. Now based on

Campobello Island, Sebastian is excited to introduce paddlers to the

region’s incredible beauty.

Guy Quinn, Seascape Guide

Guy Quinn

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Guy Quinn, a longtime stalwart of the Seascape community. An outdoor education teacher at Montreal’s Vanier College, Guy enjoyed helping people learn about themselves through experiences in nature. He was a senior Seascape guide and guide instructor around Deer Island, St. Andrews and the Bay of Exploits in Newfoundland since 1995. He described himself as preferring the journey to the destination and liked to teach presence of mind by making students aware of all five senses. Although he’d admit to being a “sea kayaker,” to him, “It’s the places Seascape Kayak Tours goes and the joy of our clients that carry the magic of paddling for me. I’ll ride shotgun with Bruce and his team of guides anywhere, anytime."

We miss you Guy. Calm seas and fair winds.

Sustainability is everyone's responsibility

Even though it is a small, locally owned and operated company, Seascape is an industry leader in sustainable tourism, for which it has received international recognition. Through his work with Seascape, Bruce Smith has created awareness of environmental issues and helped to protect the lands and waters on which the company operates. As a result, Smith was awarded the New Brunswick Department of Environment’s prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010 for environmental leadership.

Seascape began as an outgrowth of my passion for paddling and a desire to share special marine environments with others. As a tour operator, we have a unique opportunity to provide visitors with an understanding and awareness of our oceans as a precious resource. This will lead to participants helping to protect these special places.

“Bruce promotes a ‘leave no trace’ camping ethic, in the process teaching the
value of being a good steward of the land. His approach and style to guiding leave no doubt that you are in capable hands, while also stressing the importance
of individual responsibility.”
