“Anne and I just wanted to say thank you again. The sunset kayak trip was the highlight of our trip to New Brunswick. We were happy that we got to see the eagles, harbor porpoise and seals and the scenery too. That the other two couples were so nice added to our experience and we look forward to them e-mailing the pictures to us.

Once again, thank you for a wonderful experience and you can rest assured that I will be letting some friends who kayak know about Seascape Kayak Tours.”

PADDLER AND PORPOISE BY WARREN LYNN

PADDLER AND PORPOISE BY WARREN LYNN

Touch the Ocean: A Full Day Sea-Kayaking on the Bay of Fundy

Summer is in full swing and we’d like to get your tour on our busy calendar. Immerse yourself in one of the richest marine ecosystems in the world and you’ll return from a sea-kayaking adventure at secluded Deer Island with a passion for paddling and the environment. Your tour leader is a 20-year veteran of outdoor guiding. Your interpretation crew is talented, bilingual and tuned into environmental and safety concerns. The kayak and gear are top-notch – lightweight and comfortable. Trips are designed for paddlers of all ages and ability levels; all you have to bring is energy.

The powerful ebb and flow of the tides set the scene. The Bay of Fundy is well-known as a world-class biodiversity hotspot. Weather ranges from cool and foggy to sunny and warm, so you’ve come prepared with layers of clothing, sunglasses, sunscreen and gloves.

After a brief orientation, you set out under the watchful eye of your guide, exploring the coastline, secluded islands, fishing villages and the sentinels of the sea – lighthouses. Along the way, marine life and seabirds abound. Your paddling path lies near a whale-feeding ground and Fin, Minke and Right whales are commonly sighted in July and August. From the protected harbour on Deer Island you first hear, then see the Bald eagles, Harbour seals and porpoise. A foggy day amplifies the sounds while a clear day makes for the most exciting wildlife watching. During windy conditions, guides direct you into the sheltered harbour to keep you out of choppy swells.

Did a gourmet lunch ever taste this good? Succulent seafood, meat, veggies and fruit, with Fundy delicacies like scallops and salmon make a special treat. You offer a toast to the Bay, the day and this marine paradise. Click on the Puffin to learn more.

We’d like to hear from anyone who would be interested in a voluntourism experience staying in Monteverde at La Calandria Private Reserve and Lodge and visiting the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. You could combine this trip with paddling on either coast of Costa Rica, or you could do it without a kayak component. You would join us in planting trees that will help expand and enrich habitat for the Three-Wattled Bellbird.

A prayer for the crocodileDecember 2nd, 2009  | view full post

Sunday morning I arrived in Tambor with two clients I had picked up in San José. Bruce was just coming off the water after a paddle up the Rio Panica with the family of Tambor Tropical’s manager, Juan Carlos Cruz, and all were expressing their sadness at having just seen the torso of a large “cocodrilo” …
